Telling Stories Outside Your Culture Workshop

Rob Aptaker provides guidelines for telling the essential stories from other cultures in this part of the Story Circle Workshop series.  The workshop will be held at Godfrey Daniels on May 10th at 6 pm and will be followed, after a short break, by the monthly Story Circle at 7:30 pm.  This event is Free.

Rob will cover the following concepts;

  • When you borrow something valuable from someone, treat it with more care than you would with your own valuables.
  • The importance of checking in with people from the cultures whose stories you’re borrowing.
  • Where creativity and inspiration DO have their place.
  • Pointers from traditional teachers.
  • Q & A to follow.

Storytelling In Higher Education Workshop

Join Dr. Deryl Johnson at Godfrey Daniels on April 12th at 6 pm, as he leads a workshop on telling stories to teens and adults.  This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Johnson teaches Communications at Kutztown University and is a professional storyteller.

Carly Bergey, SLP | Speech Therapist,  will talk about how the vocal cords work, vocal health tips, demonstrate some warm ups and talk about how to take care of your voice. Carly Bergey is a Speech Language Pathologist certified by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association. She received her Bachelor of Music in Voice from Belmont University in Nashville, TN and her Masters in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is also certified in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy, and has extensive experience treating voice, PVFM/VCD, Chronic cough, and swallowing disorders. She has been in practice since 2010.


Karen Maurer will present a Tellabration workshop for children between the ages of 4 and 8 at the Cops’n’Kids Reading Room, Northampton Community College, Fowler Family Southside Center, Room 403, 511 East Third Street, Bethlehem, PA, 18015.

Maurer will tell stories, teach the children a short story that they can tell and lead the children in crafts and games.  Please call 610-861-5526 to register in advance.

Everything starts at 10 am and runs until noon.

Workshop on Professional Presentation

Charlotte Blake Alston will offer a workshop on Professional Presentation at Godfrey Daniels, 7 East 4th Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015, on November 9th at 6 pm.  Blake Alston is a highly acclaimed storytelling, working on a regular basis with both the Philadelphia Orchestra and Carnegie Hall.  She is featured in regional and national storytelling festivals around the continent.  Do NOT miss this workshop.  It’s FREE.

This workshop focuses on how a storyteller presents herself (or himself) on stage, how the storyteller interacts with the audience and other performers.  Blake Alston’s advice will help workshop attendees to take their stories from good enough to polished.


NJ Storytelling Festival

The New Jersey Storytelling Festival boasts 40 New Jersey storytellers, including LVSG’s own Ingrid Bohn, Judy England-McCarthy, Denise McCormack, MaryAnn Paterniti, Megan Hicks, Robin Reichert and Oni Lasana.  Don’t miss the morning workshops or the story slam, including the famous Lightning Round.

The event is held Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey on September 18th, 2016.

Storytelling 101 Workshop

Charles Kiernan, the Guild’s president, will offer a Storytelling 101 Workshop, on Wednesday, September 14, at 6 pm.  The workshop is FREE to all comers and will be held at Godfrey Daniels Listening Club at 7 East 4th Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015.

Learn about resources for stories, and resources for storytelling.  Kiernan will open the secret door to the art of engaging your audience.

The workshop will be followed by a free Story Circle.  Stick around and try out some of your new skills.
