Larry Sceurman Offers Haunting Tales at the Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity
October 27 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Larry Sceurman will offer a creepy cache of tales at the Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity, 295 East Center St., Nazareth, PA, on Thursday, October 27 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. This program is suitable for teens and adults, sign-ups begin October 3. Registration required.
Larry Sceurman’s journey into the craft of storytelling is a bit of a story in itself. He grew up listening to the personal stories of his family that were flavored with Pennsylvania Dutch humor. In his teens he worked side-by-side with his grandfather in a small auto body shop. He not only learned the trade of auto body repair, he got to hear and benefit from the stories told by the colorful neighborhood folk. Armed with the knowledge that stories were an important part of expressing yourself, he went into the field of education.
Larry taught in various vocational high schools in eastern Pennsylvania including the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, where he was an auto body repair instructor and adviser to the Drama Club. He spun tales in the classroom, not knowing that this would one day become a profession.
Larry became intrigued with the idea of being a storyteller. He enrolled in classes and professional storytelling workshops. Now retired from over 26 years of teaching, Larry devotes his time to telling stories and building birdhouses.
“When I tell a story I go to ‘Larryland’. This is a place where my imagination shows me pictures in my mind and I’m free to tell the listener just what I see.”
Larry offers a mix of folk tales, fairy tales, moral tales and personal stories. His stories will make you laugh, let you learn as you long to listen!
Larry is a proud member of the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild. He has performed customized programs for many libraries’ Summer Reading Programs. He has performed at Musikfest, Mayfair, Christkindlmarkt, Godfrey Daniels Coffee House and the Moravian Historical Society, as well as schools, libraries and churches throughout the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
